NBCRI - About The Charity

What is the National Breast Cancer Research Institute?

In Ireland, 1 in 7 women will develop breast cancer during their lifetime. 1 in 11 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer before 75 years of age. Play in Pink Day’s help support the National Breast Cancer Research Institute, a national charity that funds a comprehensive research programme at the National University of Ireland, Galway.

Research has improved the diagnosis, treatment options, and outcomes for those who develop the disease. By funding this research, we aim to positively impact future outcomes for breast cancer patients. In collaboration with universities and hospitals across the globe, the breast cancer research team at the National University of Ireland, Galway focuses on areas including personalised medicine, breast regeneration, and innovative diagnostics and therapeutics. The Charity raises funds for research from charity events, community-based fundraising, campaigns, and support from individuals and companies.

The charity relies on voluntary contributions and does not receive direct funding from the government.

Why Support the National Breast Cancer Research Institute?

There are many organisations nationwide fundraising for breast cancer awareness, but the National Breast Cancer Research Institute’s role is important, as their funded research can help find the causes and factors that influence breast cancer and therefore help to develop effective screening, treatments and medication to combat it. Without research, we will never find a cure. To see how research is impacting outcomes for breast cancer patients click here.
